Robotics Team 587 is run by the youth of the team, not by the adults. There are more than twenty kids part of the team, and each of them enjoys it. The point of the team is to teach the youth to become leaders, to work with a deadline, and to build alliances. The cool robot is just a bonus to the rest of it. ^_^
Advertising and networking are major points that the students involved most learn about, as that's how teams get funding. The adults don't lead so much as direct us. If we don't take advantage of our resources, it's all us.
Below is a description of each department and what they contribute to the team.
Strategy:
Coming up with the strategy for the competition is this department's primary responsibility. They will also scout out other teams during the competitions and forging alliances. This department shares most of it's members with Programming, setting up the Autonomous mode, or the "Robot self-control", to run at the beginning of a match.
Public Relations:
Public relations is the department that deals with fund-raising, event planning, getting information to members of the team, and dealing with other teams and companies. We are the "face" of the team, giving a human element to look at instead of just the robot.
Animation:
The 587 animation team models, textures, and renders a 30 second animation. We use an assortment of software, hardware, people, and skilled. Animation will be posted here as soon possible.
Programming:
Going along with the Build team, Programming is in charge of programming the robot to do what it's designed to do. Many members also work in strategy, as it's easier to program the "autonomous" mode when you know what needs to be done.
Build Team:
Build team is in charge of construction of the robot. Pretty straightforward, they design and build the hardware of the robot. They also make sure that the physics and mechanics of the robot are possible, plausible, and reasonable for the game they're designing for.
